Update – 5am
I could not sleep more than 5 hours, and I am up with a light flu and a bit of “brain fever”, which is not good. You might think that the less a person sleeps naturally, the more likely to succeed with polyphasic sleep, but this is not how it works. The most important thing is the quality of sleep. Polyphasic is not about sleep deprivation, it’s about a continuous relaxed state of alertness and well-being. Polyphasic is expressly not prescribed in the case of being sick. Sleep is the body’s natural healer and it’s likely that it will throw the sleep schedule totally off to get sick.
Anyway, I am still hoping to be well enough within a couple of days to begin. On the good news, I am 24 hours off coffee. I also had a genius idea this morning, I have setup my “night-office” in a tiny bathroom we have, which can be heated with a small heater (we have a big house that we keep very cold on winter nights). Overall I am finding this experience rather trippy (altered-state making) even before I begin – but to be fair I was in a rather “altered state” condition even before I began (and I have been for the last 4-5 months).
